KID CARLIN DROWNS IN NEW ORLEANS
Amos "Kid" Carlin was drowned Monday near the Spauish Fort Beach just outside New Orleans. Carlin had been in excellent spirits despite his release from the hospital only a week before following a serious injury suffered in an automoblie crash on Canal Street. A deep wound in his face was not completely healed but he seemed to be feeling fine and was enjoying the outing immensely.
When the others on the party went into the water carlin said he would join them later. They did not stay in the water more than half an hour and when they returned in the beach Carlin had disappeared. The police were notified immediately and small boats were sent to look where his body would most probably be.
A moment later a bather found the body in four feet of water. Every effort was made to revive Carlin, but all attempts were in vain. The fact that the body was recovered in only four feet of water and that carlin was believed to have a fractured skull, the result of his recent automobile accident, led to the belief that he may have fainted in the water or may have struck his head on some object as he dived into the lake.
"Kid" Carlin was originally from Jeanerette where his fighting career began. He had become one of New Orleans favorite boxer.
